The Differences of Good and Evil: Chapter Thirteen

Merida paced back and forth.

It had been two days since Jack had left.

He'd promised he'd be back in the morning, the night that he'd left, and he'd confided in her that he was bringing someone back with him. For months she'd watched him mope around, sleeping the better part of the day and deep in thought the rest. When he left, he'd had the familiar mischevious smile plastered on his face and he'd looked surprisingly happy.

But now he'd been gone far too long, and Merida was afraid he might never come back. He'd been so vague about his plans, she had no way of knowing what he was doing- she only knew where he said he was going; Heaven.

She knew if he was caught there she certainly would never see him again- oh, how she wished she had gone with him!

" Jack's my best friend, my...only..friend. I shouldn't have let him go alone." She collapsed on the cold, stone ground. The cave they shared felt so empty now- aside from the screams she could hear outside, inside there was no mischevious laughter, no sitting down and plotting their next trick on mankind. She ran a hand through her tangled red hair, then let it rest against a nearby chest. The chest itself was overun with shiny things- stolen jewelery, new coins, anything that glittered. The whole cave was covered, in fact. Immortals are suckers for something that shines. It took Merida's mind off of her missing friend...

A knock brought her attention back to the matters at hand.

" I'm sorry, am i interrupting something?"

The voice was raspy, horrifically raspy.

Merida hurridly got to her feet, walking to the mouth of the cave. It was a boy around her age, with glowing green eyes and covered in shadows.

" Hello ~ My name is Venenum. Merida, is it? Yes? My dear, i come with sad, sad news. Your good friend, Jack, has unfortunatly been killed. Murdered, i'm afraid. By none other than an angel."


Merida instantly dropped to her knees, covering her face with her hands as sobs rocked her body. Venenum kneeled down, patting her back with a cold hand. Within a few moments, Merida forced herself to contain her grief, looking up at the stranger's face and biting her lips as tears streamed down her face.

" Who....who is this angel?"

Venenum gave a cold smile.

" Vengeful, are we?...I like that. Her name is Rapunzel. You'll know when you find her, she hangs around with Hiccup, the angel with one wing. "

" I'll kill them both! I'll kill all the angels in heaven for what they did to my Jack!"

Venenum gave her a kinder pat than the last, offering his condolences, then turned on his heel and walked away into the shadows. He smiled as he left.



" Ready or not, here she comes...."
