The Differences of Good and Evil: Chapter Ten

....

" So, your name's Rapunzel?"

" Yep!" Rapunzel said cheerily, walking beside Hiccup, " We've been best friends for...i think about seven years now."

" Seven years?....How old am i, again?"

" Fourteen." Rapunzel said gently. She was trying to fill Hiccup in on what they'd forgotten. Jack walked ahead of them, having assumed the role as unoffical leader and carting around a large stick to 'make him seem threatening'.

" Hey! Jack?" Hiccup called, speeding up to come to the demon's side.

" Hm? Something wrong, babe?" He asked softly, giving the angel a small kiss. Hiccup giggled.

" No, but, what are we doing here, anyways?"

" Doing here? Well, first off, gotta get you two home, don't we Blondie?" Jack said, turning to look at Rapunzel over his shoulder. She crossed her arms at the nickname but nodded anyway.

" - And as well, there's a bad, bad man on the loose." Jack said, making a growling noise that made Hiccup squeal and shrink away.

" But i won't let him get you. You stay with me, you'll be just fine. I'll kick him outta this world, you watch and see."

" What's he gonna do? Why's he bad?"

" Don't know," Rapunzel chimed in, " We just know we have to stop him."

Hiccup looked warily around. Jack noticed, taking up his hand and squeezing it.

" Don't worry about a thing."

" I heard something." Hiccup whispered, pulling away and walking to the side of the path.

" Hey- hey, don't go over there." Jack warned.

" I'll be okay. Just let me go check it out. I didn't forget how to run, you know."

The demon made a face but waved him away anyway.

Hiccup walked slowly, taking his steps softly and lightly. He was in a clearing before he knew it, and what he saw took his breath away.


A Unicorn.


It was pure white, perfectly proportioned, with a flowing mane and tail. It trodded gracefully on it's hooves.

" Aww!" Hiccup exclaimed, rushing out towards it, " What a pretty thing you are!"

It trotted closer to the angel, neighing softly. Hiccup reached out a hand, smiling.


" HICCUP NO DON'T TOUCH THAT!!"


Jack rushed forward from the trees.

" Jack?" Hiccup exclaimed. As if on cue, the unicorn reared up on it's front legs, it's mouth twisting open grotesquely. It revealed a mouthful of bloody fangs and it eyes were completley black.

" AH!"

" HICCUP RUN!" Jack screamed, grabbing hold of the angel's arm and shoving him away from the rearing beast.

" JACK-"

" RUN, RUN NOW! DON'T WORRY ABOUT ME!"

Hiccup obliged. He ran so fast he was a mere blur, smashing through the trees and foilage. He could hear Jack's footsteps, as well as the monster's, following behind him.

" Telum!!" Jack shouted.

Hiccup looked over his shoulder as he ran. A sword had materialized in Jack's hands, and he swung the cold steel back and forth viciously.

After a few minutes of senseless swinging, the unicorn became fed up, and grabbed up the sword in it's powerful jaws, smashing it to pieces. Jack immediatly abandoned the battle, catching up to Hiccup easily and pulling him onward as they ran. Not pausing or stopping, the two boys leapt straight into a large lake. They resurfaced a few seconds later, soaking wet and pressed to each other.


Forgetting their danger, they laughed, Jack picking up his angel and spinning him around. Brushing some of the demon's wet hair from his face, Hiccup pulled Jack into a passionate kiss. When they pulled away, they saw the unicorn had abandoned the chase.

" We better get out of the water." Jack said softly.

" Why?"

" Because there might be...monsters!" Jack exclaimed suddenly, playfully grabbing onto Hiccup. The angel squealed, but then started laughing. He allowed the demon to help him out of the water.

Once reunited with Rapunzel, Jack took hold of one of her long, long strands of golden hair. He wrapped it around Hiccup's wrist, tying it firmly.

" There," He said, giving the boy a pat, " Now you can't get out of my sight."

" Wouldn't want to anyway."
