Lost Souls of 1987: Chapter One

( Warning: mention of death )

-1987-





Toothless huffed, zipping up his work costume.



A golden version of their restaurant's mascot, Freddy Fazbear, the old costume smelled and the headpiece was too hot and incredibly stuffy.


Oh well, he just needed to put up with it for a few hours. Then he could go home and go to bed.


The guy from the earlier shift was mysteriously gone, which was irritating. That meant Toothless had to work longer.



A cold chill ran throughout the back room.



Toothless shivered, slowly opening the door to gaze out into the main room.


It was a slow day, just those four teens that always came after school.



Toothless' green eyes flickered to the plaque on the wall- "Anything for a Child."



He'd always thought that motto was a little cheesy, but today it felt important.



Very, very important.

Hiccup felt Jack's arm wrap snugly around his waist. The brunette blushed, shyly chewing his piece of pizza.


Merida was telling a thrilling story about riding her bike down Angus Hill, Rapunzel gasping every once in a while.



The four of them came to Freddy Fazbear's Pizzaria almost every schoolday, often to help each other with homework and eat greasy food.



Hiccup and Jack weren't really an 'official couple', their parents would never allow it, but Merida and Rapunzel knew how to keep a secret. If nobody else was around, the boys grew very affectionate. Jack kissed Hiccup's cheek, smiling when his friend giggled.



" Hey, what answer did you get for #12-"




The animatronics suddenly came to life.




Everyone jumped, staring at the stage that suddenly roared with life.



Rapunzel stood up, feeling like something was wrong.



" I'm gonna go ask the cashier for more pizza."


Merida got to her feet fast, looking around like she felt they were being watched, " I'll come with you."


Jack held to Hiccup tighter as they walked away. They both stuffed their belongings in their backpacks. There was still an almost-full platter of pizza on their table.



After two minutes, the boys were anxious.


After five minutes, Hiccup felt his anxiety making his fingers numb.


After ten minutes, feelings of dread washed over them.



" I'm gonna go see what's taking them so long." Hicup said, standing up.


" Me too."



Jack held Hiccup's hand while they walked.


They clutched each other tightly, their knees shaking. Jack looked down at Hiccup, thinking about how beautiful he was. One day, one day it was gonna be okay for them to be together. Then they were gonna get married, and be together forever.



Forever.



" We should split up. Cover more ground."


Jack agreed, reluctantly letting go of the brunette's hand. As Hiccup walked away he turned and smiled shakily.



Jack had no idea that was the last time he'd ever see Hiccup's eyes that way.

Hiccup noticed the security room doors were open.



There was blonde hair trailing out.



" Rapunzel!" Hiccup exclaimed, running for the door, " Merida! Rapun-"



The teen froze with terror.



" G-guys?"



They were laying so still on the floor...heaped on top of each other...why were their chests not moving?



Hiccup stumbled back as a dark shape loomed in the doorway.



" Come here little boy...let's play...everyone has fun at Freddy's..."



He held a baseball bat in one hand.



Hiccup opened his mouth to scream- and stopped.



Jack would hear.


Jack would hear and try to come save him, and Jack would die too.



Hiccup pressed his back up to the wall, watching this red, inevitable death step closer and closer.



Toothless leaped from the back room, still only half dressed in his costume.



Anything for a Child.



He tackled the Red Death, screaming "run" to Hiccup.


They wrestled for a moment, but the killer was stronger.



Toothless' head was slammed into the wall. He died instantly.



Hiccup ran for the front door, hearing the clock chime 6 p.m.


" JACK!"


" Hiccup?!"



All Jack saw last of his beloved Hiccup was only his arm appearing as his body fell in front of the doorway.



And then there was only blackness.



They all died painlessly.
